You are right All Hoops, unless maybe they would allow a local fox affiliate to pick up the game, but only if FCS isn't picking up all 8 first round games. Something I just realized is that I like to go to the NCAA play-in game each year at UD, so I hope if WSU does play in the CBI, that they move them to the Wednesday night game. The main problem I see with filling the Nutter Center by Tuesday/Wednesday with enough people to raise $60,000 is that they didn't plan out in advance like they did for the HL tournament. The ticket office should have sent out fax/mailers to ask season ticket holders if they would be interested in buying tickets if WSU was invited to the NIT/CBI tournament and hosting. This would have given them a head start in getting people into the NC. So without this preparation and I can see why Dr....

Wish I would have been in on the discussions concerning hosting a CBI game ( not necessarily having any influence in the final decision ). You have to commit to $60,000 ( split between the teams ), that sounds like a lot. My first goal would be $30,000 to cover the other team and any shortfall would be on our end. Not much time to promote it, who's the opponent? Do Raider fans want to support ANY postseason home game? Anyway, I might say we should use it as a learning tool. Hope we get a...

With the high number of upsets on 1-seeds in the lower conferences this year, seven teams currently have locks for the NIT.

UNC-Asheville
UC Santa Barbara
VCU
Morgan St
BYU*
Robert Morris
Stephen F Austin
Alabama St
S. Alabama*
Utah St

BYU is probably a lock for an NCAA at-large
S. Alabama is a bubble team for the NCAAs

And count on 8-10 bubble bursted teams for the NCAA (i.e. Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Arizona...

I believe WSU is definitely in the CBI probably on the 3 seed line (10th of 16 overall in CBI). From my calculations there are 113 postseason positions (65 NCAA, 32 NIT, 16 CBI). The NCAA has 32 automatic bids, and the NIT takes any regular season league winner that did not make the NCAA. From what I have figured, there are 15-18 automatic spots taken by teams that are currently higher than WSU in the ratings systems in the NCAA and NIT combined. As far as the post season tourney goes, I believe the regular season should be something that really counts, so I like the current tournament format, (possibly with a day's rest bewteen quarters and semis playing Friday and Sunday). But one thing I defnitely would change would be the tie breaking scenario. First of course would be head-to-head, if that doesn't determine a winner, I would use a point system tie breaker.

Did you know that in a close vote, we almost were called Butler Always Wins League. The thought that even if it were true, the BAWL reminded people of Thad Matta. ( Just kidding, Butler fans...the format talk for the tournament is really something...should we follow the bracket the women use? ).

JSBSON, I agree with you . I have said in previous posts that the 2 byes should be done away with. As to the rules of the tie breaker,,, you win some you lose some. Sadly, we submitted ourselves to the mercy of the tie breaker this year.

The tie breaker went in our favor last year, but Butler still received a double bye. The tie breaker did enable us to get home court advantage. Also last year we won the tie breaker outright.

This year it had to go to a "secondary tie breaker, because teams 4-7 finished in a 4 way tie. As a result of that tie breaker our performance against Valpo worked against us, yet UIC gets 4th place and Valpo gets 6th. I'm still having problems with that one.

It is human, however, the Horizon League needs to look at everything as a whole. They cannot focus on our indivual problems. Maybe it is not fair, but it is equally not fair for everyone. Besides, we had our shot to take 2nd place on our own and let it slip away.

Klinger, while I agree that it is not fair to the #3 team, we only have to go back to last year when the tie breaker went in our favor. Talk about an advantage, we got home court advantage plus the 2 byes while Butler only got the 2 byes. Are there better systems, sure. Should we try this one for a while and evaluate the results in a few more years, probably. If there is a problem with the system, then we need to try and correct it for everyone, not just when it affects us. We seem to...

The Big Sky does not give 2 byes. Big Sky is a nine-team league that invites only six teams to post-season play. The 1-seed gets a bye to the semi-finals.

Now, the Big West gives two byes for it's top two seeds and its three and four seeds get a 1st round bye.

Just one more thought about the HL tournament format…

Wright State finished the regular season in a tie with Cleveland State. We had identical 12-6 league records. A tie breaker (and I'm not sure what it was), gave the Vikings the #2 seed and a 2 round bye, while we were awarded the #3 seed, and the task of winning 3 games in 5 days to advance to the championship game.

I'm not sure that is true regarding UD. WSU will play E. Michigan today and 2 games on Sat. over in Xenia. But I think they are still scheduled to play UD at UD on Sunday at 2PM. If anyone knows the final word on this, please post it.

I read that too Roadtrip. Sounds like this kid is quite a player, and an athletic bigger guy which we could definitely use.
