Well Butler has had some great success in Pre-Season and Post-season tournaments (As most of their fans love to remind you especially after each collapse). But when it comes to the Horizon League, Butler never can seem to come through. Here is a rundown of the recent collapses....

2001-2002 Butler wins the regular season title, but collapsed against UWGB at home in their first game of the tournament. Collapse #1

2002-2003 Butler again wins the regular season but collapses at home again, this time in the conference finals against UWM. Collapse #2

2003-2004 Butler miraculously made the conference finals after 8-8 season. You guessed it, they couldn't come through when it counted again as they collapsed to UIC. Collapse #3

2004-2005 After a horrible season again, Butler tries to make another miraculous run in the Horizon Tournament. But they collapsed in the first round against none other than Wright State. Collapse #4

2005-2006 Butler and UWM are neck and neck as the season winds down. Butler collapses in their final game against Detroit and finishes in second place. A late season loss to Wright State kind of hurt as well. Butler again loses in the conference tournament. Collapse #5

2006-2007 Need I say anything? Why not. Butler has the league lead all season but is being closely followed by Wright State. But Butler does what it does best and collapses against Loyola late in the season. A late season loss to Wright State kind of hurt as well. Once again, Butler can't come through in the tournament and loses to Wright State again. Collapse #6

Do you realize how foolish you sound making fun of Butler's recent HL history. WSU stunk all of those seasons except last year. Get some perspective.

WOW. Out of all the possible responses from a Raider fan, that is quite possibly the last thing I thought I would hear. Are you a Butler fan in disguise? The post had absolutley nothing to do with Wright State except for the fact that I highlighted Wright State when pertinent. You are either an absolute imbacile or a Butler fan.

For the love of god, I think the post has more to do with UWM than it does Wright State.

If you're going to try and put down Butler, AT LEAST get all your facts straight. It would be extremely difficult to mess up the post you just made, but somehow you still managed to do so. Unbelievable.

WRONG. Butler was upset by UW-Green Bay in the quarterfinals, which took place in Cleveland, Ohio, not at Butler.

2002-2003
Butler again wins the regular season but collapses at home again, this time in the conference finals against UWM. Collapse #2
WRONG. UW-Milwaukee hosted the HL Tournament that year even though Butler was the regular-season champion. Butler lost the Championship Game against Milwaukee in Milwaukee.

2003-2004
Butler miraculously made the conference finals after 8-8 season. You guessed it, they couldn't come through when it counted again as they collapsed to UIC. Collapse #3
WRONG. UIC beat Butler at Hinkle in the Semifinals, not the Championship Game. UIC then proceeded to knock off #1 Milwaukee in Milwaukee.

Jon Goode hitting a shot at the buzzer to beat us AT Detroit is hardly classified as a "collapse." However, Butler still made it to the Championship Game against Milwaukee in Milwaukee. You failed to point that out.

If I remember correctly, you had your own little collapse at YSU. Our loss to Loyola just happened to help you out.

I don't think Butler will collapse at all this year. They are 24-2 and I think its the best record Butler has ever had at this point. I might see one more loss somewhere but thats not a collapse.

Before last year, tell me how many League Championship Games had Wright State participated in. Shouldn't take you long, but I'll give you five minutes because you seem to struggle with research.

I'd be real careful knocking a team who makes it to Championship Games and "collapses" as you call it.

Our game at YSU did cost us something because we were co-champs last season. I don't care what happened in the past, maybe I give WSU a little more credit for the 2 victories over Butler last season. This year's Bulldogs squad is probably their best ever. Not sure what will happen but, I'll take a little luck and a great effort and hope for the best.

I like how you use the word participated. That seems to be Butler's forte, participating.

Alot of Wright State fans said the same thing about the Raiders chances last year.

One. Wright State played in ONE championship game before last year. So, I find it funny how you knock on Butler for "collapsing" in Championship Games when your Raiders have been there twice since 1994-95.

I'm not here to get into a p*ssing match, but if you're going to try and put someone down, at least get your facts straight. It really isn't hard nor does it take much time to check them. When you start a thread with a post like you did, with that many inconsistencies, it makes you sound/look like an idi*t. I'm just trying to help you out.

Not quite understanding your approach with this thread.

First, whether right or wrong, I can't see a Butler team who's 8-8 and losing the tournament as a "collapse" that is merely and "cinderella" finally losing.

Secondly, if a team makes a decent run to finish near the top of the league but then loses, I don't think that's a collapse.

A collapse is goinig 18-0 then losing the Super Bowl.

A collapse is going 60-20? (Mavericks) and losing in the NBA Finals.

A collapse is being rated pre-season #5 and losing in the final moments to a non-division opponent.

I can't really see any of your mentions, except maybe one, that is a true collapse. Furthermore, most teams over time have it lease a couple of "oppsies," that's just how the odds stack up.

Anyway, I did enjoy your perspective and it does bring up at least one interesting point. Butler does not seem to finish strong in league play. And while we are all rooting for UIC and WSU to upset Butler to give us a chance at the title, WE still have to take care of business (i.e. Valpo and Detroit).

Tommygun said it perfectly, I think this makes us look stupid ( but, however you get your jollies I guess ). WSU has had 1 great year in the HL last year and can possibly make it 2 this year. Besides that we have been a non-factor in this league. Our highest regular season finish has been 4th place prior to last season. Mocking Butler's success (when it has been light years ahead of our own) makes you look like a fool and makes the rest of us Raider fans look like fools too by association.

Good job Hinkle on calling me out on my mistakes. I tried to guess at a few things and you called me on it and completely killed my point. I seriously plan on checking my facts with you before any future posts where I am taking a guess to save time. If you can help me find out who the Raider fans are that didn't give Wright State a snowball's chance in he11 last year, I would greatly appreciate it. Some Raider fans on here wonder what my point is and think I'm stupid for the things I pointed out.

Well here is what I have learned today. Wright State and Butler is no more of a rivalry than USC and UC Santa Barbara. I've always thought that Wright State and Butler was an awesome rivalry until today. To prove my point let's look at other TRUE rivalries.

No matter how much success Ohio State enjoys, there is ONLY one thing I can promise. That is, Michigan fans will ALWAYS mock that success. No matter how much success Michigan enjoys, there is ONLY one thing I can promise you. Ohio State fans will ALWAYS mock that success. Michigan has been getting hammered by Ohio State lately, but that doesn't change the fact that Michigan fans still try to point out every bad thing that has ever happened to OSU. I also don't think you will ever hear an Alabama fan talk about what a wonderful program Auburn has. It doesn't matter how bad the New York Jets have been over the years, because they will always make fun of the Buffalo Bills for losing 4 Super Bowls. See how this works?

My post had nothing to do with the success of Wright State. The word collapse was merely used as an exaggeration in an attempt to irk Butler fans. I am not afraid to bash Butler for one second, regardless of what Wright State's record has been. I really don't know why I am rambling on about this. I expected Butler fans to pick it apart and talk smack. i guess I am just completely surprised by the Wright State fans that seem to be on their knees offering the amazing Butler program a happy ending.

Butler has been a good basketball program. I guess in leading up to another Wright State-Butler showdown, I have no interest in kissing Butler's royal hiney. All I want to do is remind them of the troubles they have had, not about all the wonderful things they have done.

Go Raiders! I hope I am allowed to say that even though Butler has won alot more games than us over the past 10 years.

(Rod you are right about your post, I was just trying to overdo it in an attempt to talk smack. I knew Butler fans would take offense to it, I just didn't think my fellow Raider fans would hop on board.)

What is this, a Butler love fest? I, myself, have no love for Butler. I want to beat them every time we play them. This is a message board, a place where opinions are stated. You don't have to agree with someone's opinion but that does not make that person stupid who you disagree with. Hinkle does what he always does when he posts on this board, he stirs things up. Let's don't take it out on each other, let's settle this on the hardwood where it really matters.

I think Butlers best team was the one that had Thomas Jackson, Rylan Hainje, Joel Cornette, Brandon Miller, Darnell Archey, and LaVall Jordan. That team was beating a very good Wake Forest team 43-10 at the half and fianlly won 79-63.

Thomas Jackson is better than AJ Graves. I'd take Brandon Miller over Mike Green. I'd take Rylan Hainje over Matt Howard. I'd take Darnell Archey over Pete Campbell.

This years Butler team is excellent, but I'll go with that team.

Also, I'm disappointed for the backlash against GITSWB. He can bash on Butler if he wants.
