I can live with frustration by Hoops and all. We win as a team, we lose as a team. One of the parents has said they have stopped reading RaiderRoundball because of finger pointing at certain players. That is unfortunate. We have dug ourselves a whole, let's see how we respond. Believe me, everyone had hoped for a different outcome. We have had some bad stretches over this three game period. I am still thankful for the 20 win season and hope to make it 21 after Tuesday's game.
The irony of the criticism is that few, if any, of us were ever the calibur of basketball player these kids are. While watching the game yesterday, I was telling my wife that I often felt uncomfortable being too critical of any of the players because I know in the back of my mind that I was never even close to being as talented an athlete (a gross understatement) as any of these kids. Plus, they are also students and have private lives, too. Who knows what might be going on inside a player's mind during a game. A mother may be fighting cancer, there might be girlfriend problems, academic issues, etc. When we watch these kids play, we are only focused on the game, not anything that might be happening outside the game. That said, I am not suggesting that we cannot be critical. But we should look in the mirror occasionally and ask ourselves whether we ever make mistakes in our own personal professions or are sometimes sidetracked by life events. That might put a little perspective on individual player performances.
