The funny thing about that was nobody showed up for the 1st few games the next year.. it was back to having half the nutter center empty. It's just gonna take more years of winning championships along with trying to get a more Raider fanbase on campus. Maybe these shirts help us out with more student support, maybe they won't. But someone tell me how they will hurt. That we won't "stand on our own two feet"? What does that mean? Rivalries help college sports and this helps us antagonize those fans a little more

Bald Raider, once again, I understand the shirts at functions that we actually play UD in. The rivalry you speak of stops at Men´s Basketball, which is what I have been saying the whole time. As to standing on our own 2 feet, take a look at the OSU vs UM rivalry. While being one of the greatest if not the greatest sports rivalries in the nation, neither school lets the rivalry define their program, fan base, tradition etc... That is what I mean by standing on our own 2 feet.

I completely disagree about what you're saying about OSU/UM.... now since this is a WSU site, I'm not trying to start anything really off topic but OSU defines themselves at HATING Michigan.... They pride themselves more so on beating Michigan and having them do poorly then they care about their own success...
Go ahead and look up "Ohio State Sucks" on Youtube... seriously.. go do it.. it's nothing but OSU fans saying Michigan Sucks... there are songs about how Michigan sucks meanwhile UM does no such thing. Go look up Michigan in Limewire.. it's nothing but "I hate Michigan" and "Michigan Sucks" and "I don't give a @%#* for the whole state of Michigan"
OSU cares so much more about UM sucking than their own success

I think you're exagerrating a little bit TBRF on OSU caring more about Michigan being bad than OSU's own success.

But I sort of agree with you. A lot of Ohio State's success is intertwined in beating Michigan which is one reason the rivalry is so big. If Ohio State wants to make the National Championship game in football, it always comes down to the Michigan game...and vice versa.

I also think it's maybe a little more one sided with Ohio State from what I've heard. I think OSU's fans' hate for Michigan exceeds Michigan's hate for Ohio State. I root for Ohio State, but I'm not a huge fan so I have kind of observed this from afar. haha. And read about it too. Ohio State fans can be pretty nutty when it comes to the Michigan rivalry.

How this relates to Wright State/UD? I don't know. haha, I'm just giving some thoughts on Ohio State.

As far as drumming support and crowds for Wright State next year, it'd be really nice if the Raiders started off with some nice sized crowds right off the bat. I think the new AD could have a big impact with increasing the attendance early on. I think whoever gets the job is really going to put a ton of focus on marketing the basketball team and trying to get people out to the games in November and December. Hopefully the students are on board and can bring a lot of energy to the Nutter Center.

I completely agree... and I'm already ready for basketball season... being a manager for no pay while being a student my 1st year at college kinda took the fun out of the season for me... i started dreading home games.... When we didn't make the tournament bye i was more mad i was gonna have to work again more than the fact it was going to be alot harder for our Raiders to make it to the NCAA Tournament again.. so yea... students are ready!

That's my perception also. I was born in '77 and grew up in Michigan. I moved to Huber Heights with my family in '90. Grew up a Michigan fan, got a pair of degrees from WSU, then got a degree from OSU. I cheer for all three teams, but favor Michigan over OSU if all things are equal.

Anyway, when I moved to Ohio, I really wasn't aware that OSU-Michigan was a huge game. No Paul Bunyan trophy. No Little Brown Jug. I knew the Michigan-Michigan State game as the biggest game of the season, and I certainly heard a great deal about the Notre Dame game. Alas, Notre Dame was quite good in the mid-to-late '80's...preceeding my move to Ohio in '90...so that may have been temporarily significant.

Aside from the debate above, I'd just like to urge everyone, fans, students, and alum to wear WSU hats, shirts, scarves, jackets, etc. not just to games but everyday of the year as you run errands, go to movies, etc. We need to make our presence known around town. We are the larger university, we have the bigger alumni group in the area, yet we are nearly invisible.

I remember someone in a diner years ago saying, "I think someday WSU will be bigger than UD", when, in fact, we were already bigger. If you go to stores displaying OSU and UD gear, but no WSU stuff, ask a clerk where the WSU stuff is. If enough people ask or complain about it, I think the stores will begin to take note of it.

Likewise with bars. If you see local bars displaying schedules and other stuff from UD and OSU, ask about WSU. I make a point to take WSU schedules to some local eareries in my area, and they do display them.

Now, I am an avid OSU fan, particularly during football season, so I will wear scarlet during that time of year, especially on Saturdays. But I was a fan long before WSU was even a dream, so I think that's OK.

Now, let's go Raiders. Let's beat those Wolverines.
