I know there are players and fans who are disappointed in our lack of any tournament play. Seeing Butler, Cleveland State, and Valpo all participating in one
of the post-season tournaments should help our players see how close we are to playing on next year.
If I were coach, I would meet with the players that are returning next year and point out (gently) how important each of those late season losses were. Just think, guys, if we would have made our free throws in the Valpo games, we would still be playing, and Wright State would be in the brackets that everyone across the country is filling out over the next several days. This is an important time for teaching lessons.
This also means that next year our focus should be more clear. We have to establish the reputation that Butler has and consistently put up the up the 20 win seasons. This may be tough, because we also will likely have to take on some tough road games to improve our schedule a notch.
I am optimistic about next year. Let's start a tradition of making the NCAA tournament.
